City of Weingarten

in 88250 Weingarten, Lake Constance

Located in the center of Upper Swabia in a unique and diverse landscape in sight of the Alps and Lake Constance, the city of Weingarten cordially invites you to come for a visit.

Standing high above the rooftops of Weingarten is Germanysbquo;s largest baroque basilica, known affectionately as Swabiarsquo;s answer to St. Peterrsquo;s, Rome. Inside is the world-famous 18th-century Gabler organ, with its 7,000 pipes, as well as the relic of the Precious Blood. But Weingarten offers its guests so much more. Entertainment includes comedy, drama, opera and ballet; therersquo;s fine shopping in the lanes in the town centre, as well as leisurely walks through the surrounding meadows and woods.
Weingarten combines the fascination of the Baroque era and its rich religious heritage with all the amenities of a modern city, which include an institution of higher education and facilities for holding conferences and events. Weingartens greatest attraction is its Baroque basilica, which in fact is Germanys largest. The city also offers many other treasures from the Baroque era.

Associated with all this is the Blood Ride, a religious procession that winds through the city in honor of the Holy Blood Relic. The nearly 3,000 horses that participate make this one of Europes most unique processions. Both the basilica and the Blood Ride have been part of Weingarten for centuries. And Weingarten has even more to offer. In Weingarten, you can attend plays held in monasteries and international organ concerts as well as visit our four museums and take advantage of our outdoor and indoor swimming pools. In short, Weingarten is well worth a visit!
